Authors are Rockstars Podcast

I started listening to podcasts about a year ago. I had a lot of time to fill, and as a result I listened to quite a few geared to writers and readers. It wasn’t long before I had picked out the gems.

Authors are Rockstars features tons of awesome interviews from traditional YA authors, both established and debut. Meg Cabot, Cassandra Clare, Libba Bray, Tahereh Mafi, Laini Taylor, and Holly Black are just a sampling of the interviewees. Middle grade or kidlit author chats are also sprinkled in, and there’s usually a giveaway going on.

Michelle and Allison are the friendly and bubbly hosts. They’re based in southern California, and while blog tours are an endangered species these days, if an author gets one, chances are California is one of their stops. Michelle and Allison have conducted most of their interviews in person with authors, though some of them have been via the internet, and they also hit up conventions when they get the chance. And we reap the benefits to their easy access to so many talented authors.

I’ll be honest, their perky enthusiasm had to grow on me, but I think they conduct really good interviews. They ask insightful questions in one breath and then goofy ones the next, which results in interviews that are a lot of fun as well as inspiring and informative. These are YA Lit fangirls in action.

As a reader, I love hearing about new YA books. As a writer, listening to the authors talk about their process, inspiration, and their stories is super inspiring.

Maybe you’re not much into podcasts, I get that. Both Allison and Michelle write reviews online. Allison is a teen services librarian and runs a children’s and YA book review blog called Reading Everywhere. And Michelle does a ton of reviews on Goodreads. So you've got options.
